- 2 players per team
- 2 balls per game
- 2 throws per side (except the first throw)
- 10 cups per side: The original arrangement is a tight triangle facing forward.
- Assemble (also called re-rack): Assemble with 6, 3 and 1 cups remaining. The cups must be arranged into tight triangles with the tip facing forward. The last cup must be pulled back within 2.5cm of the edge of the table. Reforming during the current turn is permitted.
- Rollbacks: Only one ball is returned if a team sinks both of its throws in one turn, except during restitution (see: Endgame Rules).
- The first throw in the tournament is decided randomly during scheduling.
- The balls are divided at the beginning. A ball is thrown to start the game and then two throws are made per side.
- Catch: The ball may ONLY be caught after it hits a cup.
- Bounce shots are allowed, but do not count towards 2 cups.
- Cups knocked over by balls are reset and the throw is repeated unless the ball clearly entered the cup before it fell over, in which case the hit is counted as a hit cup.
- Leaning is permitted; however, no device may be used to support a player's weight while tilting (this includes the table and the shooter's partner). Players are not allowed to move cups out of the way to support their bias. Any cup knocked over during tilting is counted as a cup hit.
- Distractions are permitted, but players may not cross the court with any part of their body while the other team is throwing.
- No player may intentionally disturb the air around the cups in play, such as by fanning with their hands, a hat, or other objects.
- No player is allowed to complain about anything said or done during a game, even if it affects their mother. Threats will result in disqualification without refund. Remarks that are racist in nature or are inappropriately sexist will result in immediate banishment from the game.
- Extended overtime games can be moved to an adjacent table.
- The beer remaining at the end of a game belongs to that team. No player is obliged to drink the leftover beer. Players are not required to play with beer and may play with water at their own discretion.
- Players who are obviously drunk must fill their cups with water.
- Arriving late or not attending a game will result in abandonment of the game. "Taking a nap" is not considered a valid excuse and will result in defeat.
- Fighting results in permanent ban from WSOBP.
- All rules and penalties are enforced by the officials. Disputes must be referred to officials. All decisions of the officials are final.
Endgame rules:
- There is always the possibility of redress (i.e. no suspension). There are two possible scenarios:
- More than one cup per side remains when the last cup is sunk. In this case, “Unlimited 1-Ball Redress” applies. Any player can make the first shot, and the ball is rolled back until a player misses. At this point, players must take turns throwing in the event of multiple hits; a player may not make all reparation rolls.
- One cup versus one cup remains when the last cup is potted. In this case the rule applies: "Take as many throws as you have balls left on your side".
These rules are based on the WSOBP rules available on BPONG.COM.
